Optimizing farm productivity and animal welfare using IoT & Blockchain
The sustainability of food systems is a global issue. Food producers are in the process of adapting to face and overcome diverse challenges posed by the climate change, the Covid pandemic or the changing food demand structure to just mention a few. The EU is playing a key role in setting standards and strategies to accelerate digitisation, facilitating a global transition towards competitive sustainability from farm to fork and tapping into new opportunities for all actors of the food chain.
Cattlechain, coordinated by Sensowave, and involving FIWARE Foundation, Institut de l’Elevage Idele, and Natrus as partners, aims at enhancing farm productivity and animal welfare while guaranteeing a fully transparent traceability of processes by means of integrating advanced IoT, Artificial Intelligence and blockchain technologies within the open source FIWARE platform.
The European Green Deal will transform the EU into a modern, resource-efficient, and competitive economy. This is a challenge for the current and new generations of livestock farmers that demands the development of advanced management techniques and technologies that improve the efficiency and profitability of farms, while respecting animal welfare and minimising the environmental impact associated with livestock activities. Cattlechain addresses these challenges with solutions helping farmers to face them, paving the way for a sustainable livestock production that works for consumers, producers, climate and the environment, materializing the EU Strategy from Farm to Fork.
The aim of this final event is to present the objectives and results of the project, as well as the new lines of work and collaboration that will be extended further. The solutions developed on the project’s scope combining IoT devices and external sensors with a new generation of Artificial Intelligence algorithms, and blockchain technologies will be presented by the project partners.
The event will also feature testimonials from farmers and the intervention of the Digital Gastronomy Lab of the Basque Culinary Center whose mission is to promote the digital transformation of gastronomy through open innovation.
